The Role of the Reading Specialist
- Test, diagnose, and evaluate the need for corrective/remedial reading instruction for students K-8
- Determine the reading ability of students through informal reading inventories and formal test measures
- Analyze and use results of the informal reading inventory (test assessment) for planning instruction
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers/parents to design a specialized reading program for a child
- Meet with individual students or small groups K-8 for instruction
- Observe referred students in their reading class
- Contact, meet, and consult with parents regarding reading concerns and development
- Demonstrate specific reading strategies to teachers for use in their curriculum
- Aid in the usage of children’s literature as part of theme development in a classroom
